As I read 2 Corinthians 5:1-14 I began thinking about what it means to be extreme for Jesus. Listen to how the Message relates verse 13-14: If I acted crazy, I did it for God; if I acted overly serious, I did it for you. Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do. Those that know me well know that I myself have been accused, on more than one occasion, of acting a little crazy. Now I see that I have good company. Paul was an extreme person, but not just for the sake of being extreme. He was extreme because the love of Christ compelled him to be.
Have you ever had someone pour love on you in a way that couldn’t help but put a smile on your face? I have. Just two days ago was my birthday. I awoke to see our kitchen strewn with decorations and “Happy Birthday” signs. Then as I prepared to drive to the church I found the inside of my car decorated as well. All day I could see the manifestation of the love Amy has for me. I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t help but jump for joy. “I am loved,” I thought… And how much greater is our saviour’s love for us?
Lord help us to know your love and sacrifice. Help us to be the extreme people of faith that your love compels us to!
