The Simple Message of Jesus…

11 Mar

The CrossToday’s devotional thought is one that has been heavy on my heart for some time.  As I read 1 Corinthians 2 today, I could not help but think about the simple message of Jesus Christ crucified.  I see a trend developing in the church today that concerns me.  As a growing number of congregations go through “spiritual renewal” and attempt go deeper with the Lord, we seem to be leaving a frightening number of people behind in our wake.  I am not speaking of the hard-hearted that refuse to respond to the new things of God, but rather my concern lays in what seems to be happening to the unchurched, the new babes in Christ and those who have a more simple understanding of Jesus.

The later part of 1 Corinthians 2 discusses how the Spirit desires to take us into deeper water.  So please don’t misunderstand me – I am not against going into deeper water.  What I am against is expecting everyone to just joins us there from the get go.  There is a subtle (sometimes not so subtle) message that seems to be floating through the church today that says, “Get where we are if you want to be anybody in God!”  It seems spiritual, it seems to be shrouded in an air of wanting to bring others alongside, but in actuality it reveals an imaturity that refuses to recognize our responsiblity to be disciple makers for Christ.  Whatever happend to being all things to all men so that by all possible means we might save some? (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

If we are going to grow in Christ-likneness we must find ourselves just as Paul did, going back and forth from strength to weakness.  For if we do not step back and bring others alongside by preaching the simple message of Jesus Christ crucified, we will totally miss the Father’s heart and will for our lives in Him.  Consider coming along side this prayer today…

Father God, I want so much to grow in the likeness of your son Jesus.  Please help me to wade into the deep water.  But father God, I don’t want to leave others behind.  Help me to keep the message of Jesus simple for those that need simplicity.  Jesus let your light and life shine in and through me so that others can know the power of your resurrection.  Forgive me for moving ahead and leaving your children behind…  Help me Lord, I can’t even do good things with out… Thank you Jesus for the amazing sacrifice you made for us.  It is in YOUR name we pray!!!

be blessed…
